Led by talented faculty member Joey Hannaford, the University of West Georgia hosts a special opportunity for AIGA student members and student guests to participate in the experience of letterpress printing. Come expand your creative knowledge and techniques.
Letterpress printing is the traditonal method of hand-setting text, letter by letter, using cast metal or wooden letters. The surface of those letters are then inked and pressed directly onto paper using a press, resulting in a slightly embossed surface which is unique and unachievable through any other method of modern printing.
At this demonstration you will get hands on experience with all the basics of letterpress printing: composing type (both metal and wood), inking, and use of two traditional presses. In addition to creating a print to keep, a fine selection of letterpress prints will be on display.
Pre-registration required, limited to 25 participants.
Light snacks provided.
